Free Bible App for Android Now Available!

A Free Bible App for reading, listening, and sharingSince the launch of our Bible.is for iPhone, folks have requested a version of the Bible app for Android. Well, I’m happy to report that just a few weeks after releasing Bible.is for iPhone, the FREE Bible.is for Android app is now available in the Android Market!

Now, folks looking for a Bible app for Android can read, listen to, and share the Bible with friends and family around the world. The Android app joins the other exciting apps already available from Bible.is, allowing millions more around the world experience the Bible in a whole new way. (Scroll down for the demo video!)

To get the app just visit bible.is/download from your Android device, and DON’T have your credit card ready! The app is 100% free :)

Here are a short list of features available in this first release of Bible.is for Android:

Free Bible App for Reading, Listening, and Sharing Just Got Better!

Control your Bible experience just like your iPod music!

Our latest release of Bible.is for iPhone makes it even easier to read, listen to, and share the Scriptures. I’ve been using the updated app for a few hours now on my 3GS, and I must say, the complete background audio support is wonderful. Grab Version 1.2 from iTunes, and read on to see what’s inside.

Complete iOS 4 multitasking support (3GS and iPhone 4 only)
  • Now you can press play in Bible.is, exit the app, and use iPhone’s built-in multitasking controls to change chapters, pause/play, and get back into the app with just a swipe and a tap.
  • When you come back to the app, you see the text for the audio you’re listening to.
  • Audio automatically advances to the next chapter, so you can listen to Psalm after Psalm or go through all your daily Program chapters.
  • If your phone has gone into Sleep Mode, just wake it up, double tap the home button, and navigate around the Bible just as you would a song on your iPod.
Complete Retina Display support (iPhone 4 only)
  • You iPhone 4 users now have stunning Retina Display graphics to enjoy throughout the app.
Improved animations
  • Transitions between Interface View and Full Screen View are seamless, making for the smoothest reading & listening experience yet.
Improved text experience
  • The default translation, English Standard Version, has been improved in the areas of punctuation and spacing.
User interface enhancements
  • Now you can just hit the Back button from the interface screen to view the other versions and languages available to you. No more going to More/Settings/Language to change your translation

Bible.is for iPhone Version 1.1 Released!

When we launched Bible.is for iPhone, we listened to what you liked and didn’t like, and today we have some good news for you: Version 1.1 of Bible.is for iPhone introduces a number of new features and improvements.

Swipe for Previous/Next

To change chapters, now you can just swipe your finger left or right.  Swiping works in both interface view and full screen view, making it really easy to follow along at church. Of course, you can still use the left/right controls at the bottom of the screen in the interface view.

Background Audio (iOS 4.0 only)

While playing audio for any chapter of any book, you can leave the app and continue listening to the chapter. When it’s done, just head back into the app and either make notes, share, or go to the next chapter.

In upcoming versions you’ll be able to auto-progress while in background mode, as well as go to previous chapter, pause/play, or go to next chapter–right from the iPhone’s multitasking bar.

Full Screen Navigation

We’ve improved the transition between interface view and full screen view when scrolling through your Bible. If you experienced “freezing” in either view, you won’t any more. The interface disappears when you don’t need it, and comes back with just a tap so you can bookmark, highlight, make a note, or share.

Language Synchronization

The language list is now synchronized for all users, making the app even more stable.

The Bible is now available in more languages. As of today (we add more languages all the time, and you get the updates automatically), you can experience the Bible in the following 37 languages:

After months of work, Bible.is for iPhone is now available the App Store! We’re excited that the app will allow people to read, listen to, and share the Bible with friends and family around the world. (By the way, Bible.is for Android and Bible.is for Facebook are also in the works, along with several other goodies!)

Right out of the gate, Bible.is for iPhone offers a reading and listening experience that will enrich your Bible experience. Here’s a short list, though we recommend you check it out directly on iTunes:
